Children in Uganda

The Lord’s Resistance Army, the most active Ugandan rebel group operates primarily in northern Uganda near the Sudan border. The LRA has abducted more than 25,000 children in Uganda and forced them to become rebel fighters. Abducted children (both boys and girls) make up more than 85 percent of the rebel forces. They are often beaten, raped, forced to kill others and each other as a test of loyalty.

Orphans

In Uganda, thousands of children under the age of 15 years have lost one or both their parents to disease and war. It is our responsibility to show these children the love of Christ by meeting their basic needs and assisting them in obtaining the opportunity to go to school. This will assure them of a brighter future and set them on their way to becoming productive adults.At Harvest Christian Church we decided to work diligently to minister the love of Christ to the people whom the Lord will bring to us. We keep in contact with them, minister the word of God, accommodate those who have no place to stay, feed the hungry, and clothe them as the Lord provides. We believe that every person deserves to have a life free from torture and a future free from cruelty.

A. We had an orphanage in our first church building which was demolished in 1999. Presently, we have the children staying with church members in Kampala and they attend different schools in the city. We are presently paying their school fees which are very costly. (The pictures below are of children for which we are paying their school fees).

B. We intend to develop our own House of Mercy Orphanage home in order to help more children. By constructing our own school it would be easier to cater for more kids and help to train them in a Christian background. We cannot help all the kids by sending them to schools in the city but by building an orphanage and a school in Mpigi district, Kafumu Parish (located outside the city) that will be able to help more children.(Members of the church leveling the land where the orphanage home, and school is going to be).

C. We have already purchased 12 acres of land where we are going to construct our House of Mercy Orphanage home, a medical center and our school. Members of the church are volunteering and have already cleared the land and have started leveling the ground. We need to hire a tractor to complete leveling the land, and materials to start construction.

• The school is going to have 12 rooms
• 2 homes (1 for boys, and 1 for girls). Each home will have 4 big rooms to house the orphans.
• There will be 1 kitchen that will provide food for the orphans
• We also need to construct
• 2 out-houses
• A medical center
  We have an estimated figure of $60,000 - $70,000 for the materials to construct the school, homes, kitchen and out-houses. These will be our first priority projects. Upon completion of those projects, we will focus on the medical center.
